Why Pinging is Good for Your Blog and Your Business!

First of all, if you have a blog then you should ping it. Now you are wondering, what is pinging? Pinging is a way to let other users and other blog tracking sites know that you have updated your blog. You should ping your blog every time you write new content and update your blog. This way others know immediately that your blog has been updated.

Now why is this good for your business?
Pinging lets people know you have updated so they will come back to your site. This allows you to build blog traffic. Your blog is connected to your business or is your business (in my case and many others) and helps to build traffic. Since pinging alerts the major blog tracking sites it then helps search engines crawl and reindex your new content much quicker. This also helps your search engine positioning which is even better for your business. It is better for your business because it brings new potential customers to your website via targeted traffic.
To ping your blog every time you update your blog, I suggest using Pingomatic.com or pingat.com since these two blog pinging tools are free. Don't pay for pinging software since these tools are truly free and work just as well. You are now on your way to blogging success!

Blogs: The New E-Tool

What are blogs?

Blogs are frequently updated web pages on which authors post articles about news items, interesting websites, and their thoughts and just about anything that interests the author. Blogs are the newest information age revolution that allows individuals to express themselves to the world.

Blogs operate using a content management system, where the blog owner can add, edit, and delete content from the blog to keep it updated as quickly and efficiently as possible.
They were originally used as online journals, or diaries, which were the mainstay of teenagers who love to write down their most private thoughts. However, given the Internet is a public information space and anyone with an Internet connecion can read your online journal it is not a good place to be posting those private thoughts.
Who should use blogs?
Blogging first came on the seen during the 2004 election, now has exploded as a marketing tool for companies, such as Sun Microsystems, StonyField Farms, and Kowabunga Technologies with the intent on bypassing traditional media of reaching customers. With more people finding companies by searching the Internet, and with 32 million Americans reading blogs, this makes blogging a cost effective tool for marketing.
Blogs would be perfect for college students. Many college professors require that their students keep a journal of their activities so that they can see how the student is progressing and if the student is learning the material. Some college professors even advise students to set time immediately after class to do their writing activity in their journal.
This journal activity can be done using blogs, where the professor can go to the website and view the blogs of his or her students. The professor can see first hand who is actively doing the activity, and contribute to a discussion with the student by posting a comment, thus creating a two-way dialogue.
Let's assume that the student is taking a course on Organization Behavior and is reading an interesting chapter on Interpersonal Communications in Organizations. At the beginning of the lecture, the professor hands out the lecture notes, usually as PowerPoint slides so the student can follow along. The first slide lists the learning objectives that the professor expects the student to be able to do upon completion of the lecture. Here is an example of a learning objective:
Describe the process of communication and its role in organizations
After class, the student can go to the computer center on campus and login to his blog, and attempt to explain what the process of communication based on the lecture. Being able to write about something in your own words immediately after hearing it can help in the learning process.
The Downsides of Blogging
Fear of negative comments
Blogs invite negative comments because there are a lot of people out there that just love to trash people and don't have anything nice to say. Companies should not be deterred. Blogs have a feature where you can moderate each and every comment that is made by a visitor, and the blog owner can choose to accept it or reject it at his discretion.
The comments made by visitors reading a blog creates a two-way dialogue between the writer and the readers creating an opportunity for acquiring new knowledge which can lead to learning. However, for learning to take place, action is required to be taken on that knowledge, for learning is a relatively permanent change in behavior produced by experience and the acquisition of knowledge.
Inappropriate content written by employees
Two employees were fired from their respective companies for what they posted on their blogs. Mark Jen was fired from Google for writing about the companies health care plan. A Delta Airlines flight attendant was also fired for writing about her escapades, some of which were sexual in nature.
There needs to be policies in place regulating what employees can and cannot write about in their blogs. However, the blog must be company owned, such as within a company website. If an employee of a company starts a blog on his own time for his own engagement, the company cannot regulate what that employee writes about in his blog. If the employer attempts to regulate that employee's behavior, that would be a violation of his first amendment rights.
Employers need to thread carefully so that they do not intrude in their employees personal lives. What an employee does on his or her own time is the employee's own business and not the employer.
What can a business use a blog for?
Implement a newsletter
Blogs come with an archiving function where posts that are published are archived on a monthly bases. This is about the same frequency as a regular email newsletter. Visitors to your blog can view past issues to see what was written in past months.
Newsletters are published documents describing information of interest to customers, employees, or anyone that is interested in learning more about that company regarding the array of business and nonbusiness issues. Blogs can be used as a delivery method for bringing these same news and announcements about a company, products/services and the online industry in general that the company is in. Whereas newsletters tend to be a one-way communication tool and are more impersonal, using blogs as newsletters can make it more personal by creating a two-way dialogue.
Blogs can be a huge opportunity for small businesses and be a very real threat for email newsletter companies, such as Vertical Response and Constant Contact [http://www.constantcontact.com/index.jsp]. These companies help small businesses build their email lists, publish their newsletters, and manage their email marketing campaigns. Small business owners only pay for the number of email newsletters that they send. The cost can range from as low as $15 for 1,000 to &750 for as much as 100,000 email newsletters.
By using a blog to publish a newsletter, the small business owner can save this money. The money saved can then be allocated to investing in the training and development of their employees, another critical aspect of running a business.
Improve a web presence
Search engines want to provide high quality search results for their visitors. Search engines love blogs and favor sites that are updated frequently.
Websites can get indexed almost instantaneously. Everytime you publish an article to your blog, it pings other websites. Pinging lets dozens of services know your website has been updated, thus increases traffic to your blog.
Become a published author
Everyone has an area of expertise, or core competency. Usually this area of expertise is based on a strong interest of the owner. You could haved owned a web design company and handled all of the Human Resources activities for your company because you had a strong interest in that field. Perhaps within this field you developed a strong interest in attracting and selecting the best candidates for your company. Maybe you tweaked the employment interview and turned it into an oral examination for the job applicant.
By writing articles, you will become known as an expert on the topics you write about. This will give you and your business extra credibility which will help you compete against your competition as you demonstrate your expertise.
To get started blogging, small businesses can save money by purchasing a reseller webhosting account, such as that from HostGator. A reseller hosting account is a tad more pricey, but cheaper in the long term. You have the ability to host unlimited number of websites without having to contact your web hosting provider and set up new account. You have to pay for every new hosting account, which can be a strain on your budget. With a reseller hosting account you will be able to create a hosting account for no additional cost (except for the domain registration).
Blogs are here to stay. As more people continue to learn what a blog is, it will continue to evolve with many new uses.

Simple Way For Beginners To Make Money Blogging By Following The 6 Core Principles

I used to think it was hard to figure out how to make money blogging. That was until I got good at it. Well if you are reading this article that means you are not good at blogging. And that's OK. I used to be where you are.
If you follow these 6 core principles on blogging you should be well on your way to actually making money blogging. I do have to give a little disclaimer. There obviously are no guarantees when it comes to that. However I'm going to share with you what has worked for me.
Let's jump right in.

1. Post On Purpose For Profit

Don't just sit down and start writing any old thing. You want to know before you start blogging what's your intent. If you are trying to make money then make sure you are posting on purpose so you can turn a profit.
Don't blog about going to a movie and drinking Starbucks that day if your target audience is not interested and if you can't turn that into a compelling story to get people to buy whatever it is that you are selling.

2. Know What Action You Want Your Visitors To Take

Whatever you focus on the most you get. So if you don't focus on what action you want your visitors to take, then guess what? Nothing will happen. Do you want them to opt in to your list, buy, pick up the phone to call you, exit the page?
Be clear on what you want them to do. Depending on what product you are selling on your blog your intention could be for them to buy right away. Whatever it is just set it in your mind.

3. Proper Keyword Research

I'm not going to spend too much time on this section. Basically we live in a search based world. People are always searching for answers online. What I'd suggest is you go to Google's keyword tool, type in a keyword related to your niche audience, and find other keywords related to it. Make sure though these are keywords that state a problem that you can solve for them.
For example thousands of people type in how to make money blogging. Since I know how to do it I'm writing this article giving a solution to your problem.

4. Create Content That Is Compelling

Now that you know your intentions and what your niche's problem is, create content that is compelling around it. I usually do this by giving them value and telling stories. People love stories.
We could care less about facts and figures. But if you know how to tell a story that draws people in that relates your point, then you will began to make money blogging.

5. Offer Your Solution

I usually do this in the last few sentences. The key to this is to go into a smooth transition that doesn't break the flow of the blog post. It can be a direct command or an indirect command for them to opt in now, buy now, or whatever you want them to do. Just make sure that whatever you have to offer will fix their problem.

6. Promote Like Crazy

None of this is any good if you don't promote your content. Think of it as if you are throwing a party. Nobody knows about your party unless you text friends, let people know on Facebook, call a few people, etc.
It's the same way with a blog post. You need to promote it like crazy. Social media sites, email list, even forums or places that your target audience hangs out. Just get the word out in as many places as you can.

That's really it. I generally follow these 6 core principles whenever I write a blog post with an intent on making money from it. I challenge you to do this for 90 days and see if you notice a difference in your results.

Why 90 days? Because when you are blogging you can't expect to see a noticeable change in 30 days or less.

Now that you've gotten most of my proven strategies, I still have a little sneaky secret that allows me to get first page rankings and make money blogging. To see what it is click here.

5 Great SEO Tips

SEO is a way to get more visitors to your website – specifically visitors from search
engines. Here are four great tips for fantastic SEO.

1. Use Adwords Vouchers

Using adwords vouchers creates a list of links back to your website - all with your
chosen keywords. Adwords vouchers are a free way to create a large number of very
relevant temporary links back to your website. You can evaluate the vouchers to see if the
amount of money you earn from visitors generated the vouchers is covered by the cost of
the vouchers. If it is, it's worth continuing with the adwords after the vouchers have
expired.

2. Read SEO Books

SEO books are a great source of information about SEO. Find out how to do SEO by
reading SEO books. When selecting a book make sure it covers topics like:
* Keyword research. How to choose great keywords for your website. The two keyword
tools above would be very useful for finding out good keywords for your website.
* On page SEO. How to ensure that the content in your website is search engine
optimised.
* Link building. How to build links from other websites to your own. This and on-page
SEO are the two fundamentals of SEO.
* Competitive research. How to research search engine optimisation using websites
which are similar to your website.
Don't just read one SEO book. The more books you read, the more you can find out
about the subject. Different books have different strengths – so it's always worth reading
more than one book.

3. Use Keyword SEO tools

Google have a range of fantastic SEO tools including two different keyword tools. To find
out what the difference between the keyword tools are, here is some text from the Google
FAQ.The main difference between the Search-based Keyword Tool and the Keyword
Tool currently in AdWords is that the former generates keyword ideas based on your
website, and identifies those currently not being used in your AdWords account.
Additionally, the Search-based Keyword Tool provides more detailed data for each
keyword, such as category information, suggested bid that may place the ad in the top
three spots of a search results page, and ad/search share.

4. Create Backlinks

Creating backlinks is one of the basics of search engine optimisation. It's fundamental.
A rule of thumb is the more backlinks your website has, the more visitors it will have. A
good way to get more backlinks is to have great content – the better your website, the
more people will want to link to it.

5. Search Engine Optimise the Content

Make sure that the content on the website is search engine optimised. Search engines
work out what your website is about by looking at the text within the pages. So make sure
that the text within your website contains lots of words which describe what your website
is about. The more the content in your website reflects what your website is about, the
more the search engines can drive visitors to your website.

To Blog Or Not To Blog

Web logs, commonly referred to as "blogs," represent all
the rage right now in online publishing.
Not really a newsletter or traditional html page
publishing, blogs resemble more of a web-based diary where
the creator records their thoughts, posts links, or
responds to questions.
With so much confusion online and an absence of "personal
touch," blogs stand to actually bring back some humanity to
the web by allowing people of like minds to come together.

** Why Blog? **
As the sea of information on the World Wide Web gets larger
and deeper, people starve for knowledge.
It's a fact that most human beings learn better when
someone else shows or tells them how to do something, or
explains what something means and its impact on their
lives.
People sitting around a fire and passing information one to
another is as old as human history, and with blogs you can
do the online equivalent.
Blogs allow you to do everything from staying in touch with
family members to building a world-wide following of loyal
readers based around a hobby or your profession.
** Monologue or Dialogue? **
You basically have two choices when it comes to your blog.
You can set it up so only you can post to the blog and
viewers just read your posts, or you can allow your
audience to comment on your posts and create a dialogue
with them.
Which model you choose comes down to your purpose for the
blog.
If you want to get feedback from customers, family members,
friends, or subscribers, then allowing them to post will
add a tremendous dimension to your communication.
If you want to keep it simple, then start out with a blog
where you post and others only read.
** How Do You Set Up a Blog? **
Log on to Blogger.com to set up a free account (monologue
type).
With absolutely zero experience and without reading the
help files, I set up my blog - http://www.ebookblog.com - in about
5 minutes.
At first I just posted a few old articles to fill in
content and see how the process worked.
Lately I've gotten the "blogger bug" and plan to start
posting several times a week.
Though my blog gets posted on my own website, Blogger.com
also allows you to post to their server so you don't even
need a hosting account to set up your own blog.
You can get a more full-featured blog (dialogue type) from
MovableType.org.
There you have the option of getting their software
installed on your server or obtaining a very reasonably
priced account hosted on their servers.
Either way you choose, posting rates as simple as typing
into a web form, clicking a button, and your articles and
comments automatically get posted to your blog (no html or
ftp skills required).
If you want to find one of the thousands of blogs online
about everything from cooking to puppy potty training, log
on to:
You can easily and quickly search through rapidly expanding
databases of blogs open to the public.

Blogging for Profit By Using AdSense

This article is designed to teach you how to profit from blogging, writing to a website in the form of regular posts, without spending anything. The keys to this idea lie in two of Google’s programs, Blogger.com and AdSense.

The first obvious step is to find a niche. While it is possible to have a general interest blog, it may not be as profitable as targeting a specific subject (click here to read the logic behind targeted advertising [http://www.clickfordeals.net/index.php/the-logic-behind-niche-content-profits]).
Once you settled on a subject you like, its time to set up your blog. Blogger.com is great for beginners. Not only is it free (and free of ads, unlike most free hosting services), it has integrated support for AdSense (more on this later). For now, pick a suitable but catchy name and choose one of the pre-made designs.
Of course, now you have to start making posts to your blog. There are two main types of posts. The most common type of content on blogs seems to be commentary plus a link to the actual news source or website of interest. Then there are original content posts which will have others link to you (much like you do in your commentary posts). Either way, make sure its interesting to have readers coming back.

Now its time to apply for Google’s AdSense program. AdSense is a pay per click program which matches ads to the content of your page. Every time a visitor to your site clicks on one of these links, you receive a small amount of revenue (the minimum advertisers can bid for a link is $0.05, of which you receive a percentage. Many phrases can have bids as high as several dollars per click).
The content of your site determines what ads appear, and therefore how much you will ultimately make. The placement and appearance of ads, however, can have just as great an impact on how much you make.
There are a few tips for maximizing ad revenue. First, the appearance of the add itself is important. Google clearly labels all its units as advertising, but allows you to determine the colors of the links and the background. It is important that this match the look of your site. The more blatant an ad is, the more likely it is to turn off visitors. Just as important is the location of the ad units. They should appear on the top half of your page, and preferably on the left side. This insures the ad is viewed by most visitors.
Having covered the basics, its now time for you to experiment to discover what works best for your new blog. The best part is, it costs nothing to try.
Chris Rivers is a writer for http://www.ClickForDeals.net. Visit the site to learn more about maximizing profits through affiliate and pay per click programs. Articles appear on the site exclusively one week before they are syndicated.

Blogging for a Reason

For some it's just a fun thing to do, while some others feel they will soon be left out; they soon join the crowd. Everyone who uses the internet knows someone who has a blog. Now what do you find in a blog that you dont find anywhere else... Nothing? If you are a friend of the blogger you visit his blog probably because you want a sneak peek into whatz happenning in his life right? don't deny that... been there done that! oh, and if you are a blogger yourself you visit other blogs thinking that the other guy reciprocates.
So why do you blog? Ask yourself this question. If you can't answer this I can tell you why you blog -
1. You wanted to be famous like the friend of yours getting all the attention? You want people to give you more attention and listen to you more.
2. You are socially disabled and the only contact you have is with the computer. You obviously have not taken a bath in a week or more. And you believe that the only people in existence on the planet are living on the internet.
3. You do not really care what people think about you. You want to drown others in your personal agony. You come up with some thoughtless contradictions that you think others will like to argue with you about.
4. You want to have a say in all things that is happenning around you. You want to talk about what you ate this morning, which side of the bed you got up etc. You have an agitated head that wants to express all the million bits of thoughts that is entering your head.
5. You want to be a self-proclaimed town crier. You think of those eyeballs of people who know you who are constantly looking for important updates about another person they know. You want to be the first to announce a friend's wedding date that the others know about already. You want to keep the rumour mills turning.
6. You think you are very important in the society. They want your opinions to be read and heard. You want to give profound insights and meaningless thoughts that you feel will affect the society at large.
7. You want to be a writer and you are only practising your skills.
8. You have a lot of time and maybe you are even jobless at the moment.
If you said YES to any one of these and that is the only reason you blog, you probably need to rethink about what you want to do with your blog to put it to better use today.
Now I will tell you the reasons why I blog.
a. A blog is a very important source of information online. We know we are constantly on the lookout for more data to process and blog is an all important source. No denying that. I want to be a source of such useful information.
b. I have a business and I need to promote my business online. If I own my own blog... I can self promote my services to you and because you know me you are probably going to recommend me and refer your friends.
c. I know that Search Engines like contents. Blogs are a great way to get my site noticed by the search engines. Because a blog is fresher than static sites, search engines love to visit blogs to index them. If I talk about my business in my blog and put a lot of keywords related to my business, people are more likely to find me when they search for something in Google and they find the link to my business site and visit it. Believe me internet works that way and this alone is a very good reason why you need to have a blog.
d. I want to establish myself as an expert in my field. The more people are going to hear about me and my business, the more likely they are to put their confidence in me.
e. Blogs are a great way to position my company in the eyes of my existing clients. In other words, giving it a more human face.
Here is what Jonathan Schwartz, president and chief operating officer of server maker Sun Microsystems had to say about blogs after he started his blog himself and found that it was a gold mine. "It'll be no more mandatory that they have blogs than that they have a phone and an e-mail account," Schwartz says. "If they don't, they're going to look foolish."
Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates is considering starting a blog, says a company spokesperson. Filmmaker Michael Moore began a blog on July 4 to promote his controversial new movie, Fahrenheit 9/11.
I blog for a reason, do you???

Business Plan Of Success

Being in the health and fitness industry for all these years had taught me to view our business as if we were viewing it through the eyes of our prospects. How do we purposefully achieve a fully operational business plan? This was the question our fitness company and they had spent many years in developing the ultimate solution to manage their business and be the abreast within the industry which I believe will be the essential to maintaining any businesses.

This master plan is divided into 4 main pillars which are sales, fitness, member experience and commercial management. This 4 pillars are supported by the core values RECIPE with each efficiently expresses all staffs of our company to understand their roles within appointed departments. I want to highlight the points of which the RECIPE stands for because it creates the core foundation for any internet business.

R stands for Respect and Integrity towards prospects and employees as its the outmost important to be respect the value of honesty in every product we deliver. In this information age, people are bombarded with tons of information every second on the internet, and the possibility of stumbling upon the same product or services is very high. So be honest in your delivery and you will receive the same in return.

E stands for Everyone Counts meaning that every product you create or become an affiliate of will need a proper understanding of the modern lifestyle needs. This is only achieve when you are able establish a sense of understanding those around you and the problems they face as individuals, then you are one more step closer to their solution and over the internet solution is an absolute. When you provide solution to even a single individual then he/she will become your offline affiliate by spreading the word around.

C stands for Community. As we all know the internet is a world of its own and within it we have tons and tons of community which share a similar interest which we termed it as niche market. Just as you would know which department you would have to go to inside a hypermarket to get your fishes or what to look for when going to a the tarik at your local mamak restaurant, it is the same over the internet as they would help you understand the your direction towards your goal. Participating within this targeted community over the internet gives a leverage amongst the selected community as they know that we care and bonding begins. Social media and forums are the best way to approach these step.

I stands for innovation. We all want to make money over the internet as achieve this financial freedom that we see others achieve such simplicity. Have you thought about what's the difference between you and those who achieve this financial outcome you desire for? Innovation is the answer, to be ahead of the game you must be innovative, and how do you be innovative? Simple, look at everything around you right now and observe how it works, how it was created, what is used to create it, why was it created and how that very problem is related to the business. Everything around you is money, made by people for had thought of an innovative idea to solve a certain problem which is a termed as daily needs for us today. I know its deep, but it's something that requires the fundamental understanding of that particular matter.

P stands for Performance Counts and how it applies to the internet business which is such a competitive business when every product or service can be automated through another automated service provider which makes our follow up much easier. People would depend on someone whom can constantly provide valuable information, the more they will return to you. It will be better when you could reward your subscribers with something of value, then you be rest assure that you have built a list of loyal subscribers whom have branded you as an expert which they would refer to.
E stands for Energy and Passion. This is the key of keeping you and your business on the right track as some would not have the same excitement and enthusiasm when you started so the progress of their business will fall. My only advice will be to keep yourself motivated by watching funny videos or listening to some favorite music to enlighten when you feel down and bored or any other negative feelings gets in your way during your power hours. You must love what you do and always in the right mood to do what you love.

To be able to have a successful online business, you will need to have the right system. You will see how I made $10,000 starting from scratch just by sending out 1 email in my latest e-book, Internet Cash Avalanche. I'm giving the first 150 review copies away for free. Call it charity if you want... But one thing's for sure, it's not going to be available forever. Consider yourself lucky if it's still here. Go to http://www.richneasy.com and download your ebook.

A Blog Is a Blog - Right?

Actually, yes that is right. A blog is a blog. There are thousands of types of blogs.
You can have one about building a business, showcasing you photos, recipes, animals, etc. You can blog about whatever you want and STILL build a business too. Are you a Mom who likes to blog about her kid's school teams? Are you a Dad who likes to blog about his favorites sports? Are you someone who likes to blog about their adventures in life? Do it! All these blogs are great! What is your intention for your blog? Once you figure that out, you can focus on what to write and show as images - HINT - there is no wrong or right thing to put on your blog, as long as it means something to you AND you don't mind sharing it.
Don't give up on your blog if it's not working out the way you want it to. It does take time to build an audience. Before you start building an audience you need to have these things happen.
  1. An Intention
  2. A Strategy
  3. Daily writing - maybe even twice a day.
Intention - Why do you want a blog? What are you going to write about? What do you want the end result to be for your blog? Do you want to make money? Do you just want everyone to be able to see and share your "posts"? Do you want a gazillion people to see your blog? It's really up to you.

A Strategy - How are you going to accomplish your intention? Are you going to syndicate your blog? Are you going to post it to the social media sites? If you are, are all your social media sites set up to point back to you and represent you correctly? Are you going to buy traffic? Are you going to post to free ads sites? Whatever you are going to do, make sure its a strategy that is simple and will get you to your goals.

Daily writing - this seems obvious but it's not always. Some people are not in it for business building and don't need or want the large amounts of traffic. If they want to post once a week or once a month, that is fine. However, if you want traffic, and you want to see Google finding you and you want to get paid - write every day! It is so essential! I'm not perfect, I have missed days - but - I pay for it. I can see my traffic dip and that means my lead source is dipping and that does NOT help your business. Your blog is part of your business, treat it that way. So, besides what YOU want for your blog; A blog is a blog is a blog Unless - It's making you money like mine!

The Battle With SEO Keywords

Choosing just the right words for search engine optimization (SEO) can be a bit like walking a tightrope. Lean too far to one side or another and you can find yourself taking a spill. A lot of people new to SEO make the mistake of either going too broad or too narrow.
So how do you know when you have strong, catchy keywords? Well, here are a few tips to help you find something that will work for you.

THINK ABOUT WHAT YOUR DENTAL WEBSITE OFFERS

One of the biggest hurdles is trying to pin down exactly what it is you want people to know about what you offer. For businesses that specialize in one very particular service, things might be a bit easier, but even then coming up with the right keywords can be tricky.
For dentists and endodontists, it may seem natural to go with a keyword like teeth or even dentist. But these are going to be too generic, even if they do cover the types of services you have to offer. Try to be more specific. Teeth cleaning, root canal, or family dentist are examples of slightly more specific keywords. Being more specific gives you a greater chance of ranking in search results. However, you need to narrow your keywords even further to be found in your area. By adding in your location or nearby locations to your keywords such as "Alton Endodontist" or "Sacramento Root Canal", you will be discoverable in your area when people search.

CHECK THINGS OUT FOR YOURSELF

Take a trip to your computer and hop onto Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Get a feel for what is doing well already by typing in a keyword or two that you might be considering. Before you hit the search button, notice that drop-down menu that gives you some suggestions? On Google, that drop-down is called Google Suggest, and it shows the most relevant phrases relating to what you have typed in. For example, if you type in root canal, you will see listings such as root canal cost, root canal pain, root canal symptoms, etc.
This will give you an idea what keywords are ranking well. Now, obviously, you don't want to just take one of these as your own. But, you can use the information to find keywords that might offer up less competition, giving you an in for that VIP drop-down.
TO VARY, OR NOT TO VARY?
One big question people have about keywords is whether or not they should repeat the same keyword or phrase over and over, or if it is more beneficial to vary the keywords. It is perfectly acceptable to repeat keywords, but there is a caveat. You should make sure that the meanings behind your keywords are different enough.

Having teeth cleaning and teeth cleaning online pretty much mean the same thing, but using teeth cleaning in Minneapolis and teeth cleaning for less are different enough that the key phrase isn't redundant.

STICK-TO-ITIVENESS

Rome, as they say, wasn't built in a day, and neither will your rankings. It takes some time and consistency to hit that coveted first page of search results, but that's exactly where you want to be. A recent survey showed that 75% ignore all but the first page of search results.
Your keywords should reflect what you write about often and what your dental website continually focuses on. Even if your site has blogs about tooth decay, veneers, and kids' favorite toothpaste, you have an underlying emphasis. Look at the blog titles, pages, and content you have and expand on any common keywords that you may already be using.

ONLINE RESOURCES

If you want to know more, you can really get in depth with keywords. There are some excellent online resources available, too. Google, for instance, has a ton of analytic resources you can use. Check out Google's AdWords or the Google Trends page to get started.
